Okie Angst

Tonight is the biggest night of the year in the State of Oklahoma. The Sooners are playing in the 2008 Tostitios Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix(my god, David Foster Wallace was right, wasn't he? Isn't 2008 officially the "Year of the Tuck's Medicated Pad"?). Sooner football is the biggest thing in the state by an order of magnitude (Toby Keith and prison rodeo are far behind), but big bowl games are problematic. That 55-19 blowout suffered at the hands of Southern Cal and last year's debacle loss to Boise State weigh heavy on the Sooner Psyche. We are something like 8 point favorites but there will be big time nailbiting tonight. We will definitely be watching at Chez Angus, but since Michigan won their bowl game AND got rid of Lloyd Carr, I am already a happy happy sportsnut.

Excuse me, it's the Tostitios Fiesta Bowl, not just a plain Fiesta Bowl?

I'm only commenting because, it's the "biggest night of the year in the State of Oklahoma". Somewhere in Oklahoma (and outside of it too) a politician is polting to ruin your health care, to seize even more of your productive effort to waste it, and new reasons to throw peaceful, honest people in prison. And yet, a sporting event that you are not even playing in is important.

Angus, if you meditate a little or just decide to be stoic, that game will have no effect on you at all.

By all means, watch the game and have fun -- but don't pretend it's important.

Its not important to me personally, but I am telling you in all seriousness, this is the biggest event all year for a faily big majority of the people in Oklahoma!!

And yes, it is the prophecy - fulfilling "Tostitos Fiesta Bowl"
